Hi I'm Julia and I set up Oceanlight Yoga to share my long-term love of Yoga. I'm a warm and caring teacher, with 25 years of my own practice and 3+ years of immersive Yoga Teacher Training. I genuinely believe Yoga has something to offer everyone, it's just a matter of finding it.
People who enjoy the Yoga offered by Oceanlight are aged 18 - 82 and come from all walks of life. The Yoga I love to share is nurturing, soulful and playful. Modern life is demanding, requiring so much effort and striving that we even end up finding our sport and recreation is the same! My Yoga is more of an 'undoing' and will help to re-balance and restore a sense of ease, joy and relief in mind as well as body.
I'm a member of the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) and hold their prestigious 500 hour Yoga Teacher Diploma, the highest qualification available in the UK. I practise Yoga daily (but don't think you have to!) and try to bring the heart and values of Yoga into my everyday life and teaching.
My over-riding inspiration comes from Vanda Scaravelli, who pioneered a sensitive, playful and supportive approach to Yoga, along with many years of BKS Iyengar and Vinyasa style Yoga. Yoga is so rich and diverse, an eternal journey that gently leads me ever deeper in my understanding and I love sharing this in my teaching.
My Yoga style continues to evolve and I love to offer something unique in my approach - choosing what resonates at the time and season, blending this into practices tailored to the individualities of the groups and 1-2-1 sessions I'm leading.
Like many of those who I teach, pain (or should I say pain relief) was what first got me seriously into Yoga.
